Hi to all Parents and Nippers and welcome to week 1 of the new Nippers Season for 2017/18, I’m really looking forward to kicking off the Nippers Season this Sunday 15th October.
To Nippers Parents of new and returning members a big thanks for making Narrabeen your club of choice, and even though we are one of the smallest clubs on the Northern Beaches we are blessed with some of the most modern facilities run by a group of the friendliest volunteers you will ever meet!
We are keeping Nippers Registrations open at Narrabeen for the time being as some clubs have closed off theirs and if you know of anyone that has missed out then bring them along.
For those who don’t know me, my name is Brett Worne and my role is the Youth Director at Narrabeen. Along with an enthusiastic group of Age Managers and Water Safety staff our goal is to increase your child’s knowledge about being safe and having fun at the beach.
My weekly emails during the season will be brief and are designed to give Parents a heads up on events for the following week or upcoming events such a carnivals.
Nippers Overview for new members:
The typical Nippers Sunday commences at 9:30 am sharp so I recommend Parents arrive around 9:00 am to get a coffee and make sure your children are organised with their cossies, applied sunscreen and drink bottle.
Week 1-Oct 15th –This Sunday is the all age group Proficiencies:
• Club will be open from 8:30 am for last minute registrations and cossies purchases.
• Nippers kicks off at 9:30 am SHARP.
This is the first week of the season and most will be familiar with the process of doing their proficiencies now a mandatory requirement for all age groups including the U6’s and U7’s.
After Welcoming formalities and a watching a dye test for rips, at around 10:00 am we will jump in cars and head up to the Terry Hills Swim School, 31 Myoora Rd, Terry Hills to complete proficiencies. Starting with the youngest age groups and working our way through, we aim to be completed by 11:30 am…once a child is marked off they are free to go.
Proficiencies are held so we can gauge a Nippers ability in the water so we can tailor Water Safety requirements to suit. For the U6’s and U7’s we will have a buddy in the water with them to help them overcome any first day nerves and to make it a fun experience for them.
For any child that can’t make the first week we will run another session the following week at the North Narrabeen ocean pool but more about that in next week’s newsletter.
Mums and Dads: Please make sure that all Nippers clothing is clearly labelled using permanent marker with your child’s name especially the Nippers Cap and Hi Vis top.
